Your CAPS-UAW Bargaining Committee met with the State yesterday, where the State rejected the following components of our July 3 proposal package: Section 2.25 Pay Equity Audit – Joint Labor Management Committee, and Section 2.13 One Time Retention Payment. The State has yet to provide a counterproposal for both sections.
See the proposals we’ve tentatively agreed to and put forward on outstanding sections here.
it’s become increasingly apparent that the Newsom Administration is unwilling to back up their lofty rhetoric about closing the gender pay gap and establishing equity, where it doesn’t exist, with bold action. Despite the Newsom Administration’s public statements supporting pay equity, they continue to reject our proposals for how to end the inequities State Scientists face, even going so far as to obfuscate the issue and pretend it doesn’t exist.
You and your colleagues have every reason to be aggrieved after the way the State has held to their inadequate salary proposal. It’s of the utmost importance that all of us commit to taking these extremely important union actions, listed below!
Here’s what to do, right now:
RSVP and Attend the Wednesday, July 24 Membership Meeting
Our contract fight is truly in the hands of you and your colleagues. The membership is the highest authority of the union. With this in mind, your CAPS-UAW Bargaining Committee has requested YOU to attend a Membership Meeting this coming Wednesday July 24, 2024, between 6-7 pm to deliberate and discuss our next move(s) at the bargaining table.
You and your colleagues will participate in a straw poll to determine the future direction of our contract fight. Only members attending will be able to participate in the straw poll. It is critical members attend the meeting in-person to demonstrate solidarity with your fellow scientists and to show our power to the State. A virtual option will be provided, though in-person attendance is strongly encouraged. Here is a continuously updated list of in-person meeting locations, also listed below.
Only dues-paying CAPS-UAW members may attend. To become a member of your union, sign up here.
