State Responds to Economic Items

Your CAPS-UAW Bargaining Committee met with the State today. During today’s bargaining session, 14 observers attended. The State passed four economic proposals, and let us know they were interested in a three-year contract term. 

Below is a summary of proposals we received from the State:

  • 2.1 Salaries: 
    • General Salary Increases for all rank-and-file State Scientists: 5% upon ratification, 3% in July 2025, and 2.5% in July 2026
    • A Special Salary Adjustment of 5% for the following classifications:

  • 2.18 Geographic Pay Differential:
    • A $250 monthly differential for employees that work in six Bay area counties (Alameda, Marin, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties) 
  • 2.19 Longevity Pay:
    • A percentage-based monthly differential for long-tenured employees (between 2% for 17 years of state service and 5% for 25 years of state service), phased in over three years
  • 2.13 One Time Retention Payment:
    • A $3,000 one-time payment for every rank-and-file State scientist who are employed with the State on July 1, 2024 and remain employed with the State as of the date of ratification

Your CAPS-UAW Bargaining Committee is working to develop our counter package. We are meeting with the State again tomorrow and will let you know more as soon as we can.
